Principal’s Message

Principal’s Message

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Thank you to all staff and parents/caregivers for your work and support for our students and School during this Term.

Our students continue to be amazing ambassadors for Swan View Senior High School. Recently, Mrs Bowell and I attended the Western Australian Secondary School Executives Association Annual Conference. Former Swan View Senior High School student Kawlija-Merle Brahim delivered an inspiring address during the session Student Voice – Future State. Kawlija-Merle was joined by representatives from Churchlands Senior High School and Warwick Senior High School.

I am very proud of the wonderful relationship that we have with our partner primary schools. These schools have always been and continue to be great supporters of our School. Our Transition program was well attended by students from our partner primary schools. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Mrs Bradley, Media and Marketing Officer, and other staff who have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the Transition program. Students gained an opportunity to experience some of the interesting and engaging programs offered at Swan View Senior High School. Thank you for your continued support.

During this Term, Year 4 students from Midvale Primary School and Swan View Primary School participated in the Robotics and Media Program at our School. The days were well received by the Year 4 students. The Program provided students with an opportunity to engage in exciting learning experiences in the information technology and STEM area. Thank you to Mrs Bradley, Mr Blaikie and Mr Vidler for their hard work in organising the Program.

Last month, it was my pleasure to attend the School production, Triple Take at the School’s Performing Arts Centre. The performance includes: Through the Looking Glass, The Centenarian, and God of Carnage. Our Arts Learning Area staff team led an outstanding cast and crew of students in staging the production. There were many notable performances and several of our students certainly have a future in the theatre. Students from Greenmount Primary School and Swan View Primary School attended an enjoyable matinee performance. On behalf of the many staff and parents/caregivers who attended, I would like to thank our students for their wonderful performance.

Our capital works and maintenance program continued during Term 3. The completed works include:

  • Newly established area with lawn and a large shade tree behind the Mathematics Building.
  • Reverse cycle air-conditioning with heating options in the Dance Shed (Room 8.1).
  • Repainted doors throughout the School.
  • Education Support Centre classroom renovated with painting, carpeting, and installation of a second door entrance and a window.
  • Serving counter in the School Canteen was widened and replaced with stainless steel.

The above works will add to the improved learning environment for students and staff across the school.

Recently our students in Years 10, 11 and 12 participated in the OLNA test. These are compulsory for students who are yet to meet Literacy and Numeracy standards towards their WACE. Students participated in the tests appropriately and are to be congratulated on their efforts in preparing for the assessment.

The School enjoyed a very successful parent-teacher afternoon on 15 September 2021. The event forms part of the School’s reporting to parents schedule, enabling parents/caregivers to receive a semester overview about their child’s progress.

The School was very proud to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our students at the recent Assembly on 15 September 2021. The Assembly was well attended by parents/caregivers and friends. Congratulations to all students on your amazing achievements.

I am available to meet with parents/caregivers and students. Please feel free to make an appointment at the School reception.

Finally, it will be my sad duty to shortly farewell our Year 12 students. Congratulations and well done to all the Year 12s and best wishes for the future. We look forward to celebrating your six years of secondary schooling at the formal Year 12 Awards Ceremony.

Wishing all families a safe and peaceful school holiday.

Dr George Sekulla
Principal
